Vassilios Papadopoulos -

Dr.
Papadopoulos received his Diploma in Pharmacy from the
University of Athens, Greece and his Ph.D. in Health
and Life Sciences from the University Pierre & Marie
Curie (Paris VI), France. He did postdoctoral training
in biochemical endocrinology at Prince of Wales Hospital,
University of New South Wales, Australia. He then joined
as a faculty Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC)
where he raised through the ranks to the level of Professor.
In 2003, he was elected Chair of the Department of Biochemistry
and Molecular Biology at GUMC and in 2004, he was appointed
Associate Vice President for Research. In 2005, he was
appointed the Director of the newly founded Biomedical
Graduate Research Organization at GUMC. In July 2007
he moved to Montreal as the Director of the Research
Institute at McGill University Health Center (MUHC),
Associate Executive Director for Research at MUHC and
Professor of Medicine at the McGill University Faculty
of Medicine.
Dr.
Papadopoulos’ has published over 200 papers and
has numerous awarded and submitted patents on applications
of his research in reproduction and development, cancer,
stress-related disorders, aging and brain related dysfunction,
such as Alzheimer’s disease pathology, and infectious
diseases. In 2002, Dr. Papadopoulos was elected a member
of the National Academy of Pharmacy, France, for assigning
a physiological function to a drug binding protein and
his studies on the pharmacological regulation of steroid
biosynthesis. In 2004, he received the Biotechnology
leadership award from Georgetown University and in 2007
he was awarded a Canada Research Chair in Biochemical
Pharmacology from the Government of Canada.
Dr.
Papadopoulos has trained numerous fellows and students,
has published extensively and holds numerous patents.
He has lectured throughout the world in academia, industry
and scientific meetings. He served and serves on review
committees of various governments, foundations and agencies
and on the Editorial Board of various scientific journals.
He served on the Board of Directors and Advisory Boards
of biotechnology companies and he is a regular consultant
for the pharmaceutical industry.
